Oakville Pet Photographer: End of Life Dog and Cat Photography Session

As an Oakville-based photographer specializing in family and pet photography, I know how important it is to preserve these moments.

When Gia and her partner contacted me for an end-of-life pet photography session to photograph Nikky, her beloved dog, battling cancer and heart issues, I wanted to create a meaningful session that honoured their story.

To make it even more special, Gia brought along her cat, Usher, who shared an inseparable bond with Nikky.

Cat Photography

Photographing a cat and a dog in the same pet photography session requires strategy and patience.

With cat treats and toys on hand, I kept Usher curious and engaged, capturing his playful personality. These thoughtful touches ensured Usher's presence was beautifully highlighted, complementing the session’s overall story.

A Scenic Location for Family and Pet Photography

The session took place in one of my favourite spots in Oakville—a hidden gem perfect for family and pet photography. Lush greens, rocks, and a beautiful water backdrop surrounded this November photoshoot.

Outdoor settings like these offer the perfect environment for an outdoor pet photoshoot, allowing pets to feel comfortable and families to enjoy natural surroundings.

We photographed the whole family together, individual pet portraits, and even Gia and her boyfriend with their pets.

The highlight? Ugly Christmas sweaters to celebrate Nikky’s last holiday with his family. These images are now cherished as they capture the joy and love of their time together.

What They Invested In

Gia and her partner chose my Love Bug Package, which includes a 16x24 floatmount, two 8x10 matted prints, and 20 edited images in high and low resolution.

Additionally, they invested in a custom photo album to further honour Nikky’s memory. Gia expressed how meaningful it was to have these tangible keepsakes, especially knowing they would hold these memories forever after Nikky crossed the rainbow bridge.

Why Tangible Memories Matter

Digital files may feel convenient, but they’re surprisingly easy to lose—whether through a crashed hard drive, misplaced USB, or outdated technology. Tangible memories like prints and albums provide something digital files cannot: a lasting, physical presence.

They offer a way to honour your pet’s life in a form that won’t be forgotten in the shuffle of technology but instead becomes part of your daily surroundings.

Beyond their permanence, tangible keepsakes bring life to your memories in a way screens cannot.

A floatmount on your wall or an album on your coffee table transforms your pet’s story into an artful celebration of their life. These physical pieces invite connection and reflection, giving family and friends a way to share in your pet’s legacy while keeping their memory close.

“

“The absolute best photographer. I believe this is one of the best decisions I've made.

I had a very sick puppy, we were told, and we knew that anytime he would leave us and start a long and different journey. It was a very difficult thing for us to accept because things were happening so quickly. We believed that if we could capture a beautiful family photo before he goes, it would serve as a reminder of how happy and complete we were.

I reached out to Ms. Sharon Canovas to inquire and to try to book an appointment; she promptly responded to my email and fit us into her schedule. She talked me through the entire process, and to be honest, she made me feel understood rather than like a client. She listened and cried with me.

She arrived for the shoot well-prepared, complete with treats, toys, and props. I now have the best shots of both of my babies (dog and cat). She caught the best moments. I'll be honest: having a cat and a dog in a photo shoot was not simple. Nonetheless, she made it appear effortless. The photos were just beautiful. I couldn't stop staring at it, and it's now our wallpaper on all of our devices... it's just so good.

Ms. Sharon is an angel. She is one of the most patient, sweetest, and most compassionate and supportive people I've met. It was a VERY GOOD experience. I am forever grateful to her, and she is simply outstanding at what she does."
