Mother's Day Family Photoshoot
Kimberly called me to set up a Mother's Day family photoshoot as a gift for her mom Barbara, planned together with her sister Debbie.
This is exactly the kind of family photography session I love building for families, since it started as one person's idea and grew into something the whole family took part in.
The session ended up landing on Father's Day instead, since that was the date that worked for family driving in from out of town. I expected the park to be busy that weekend, but it turned out quiet, and we had the space to ourselves the whole time.

Outdoor Family Photos
The golden hour is normally my choice for creating family and pet portraits, since I love how flattering the light is on my subjects.
This family photoshoot session was set for eleven in the morning instead, which I accommodated because of Debbie's six-year-old son. I went to Lowville Park on my own time before the session to walk the park and find the shaded spots that would work best for family portraits in that kind of light.
Being a summer family photoshoot, those shaded spots mattered even more, since they kept everyone comfortable in the heat while we worked.
I also brought my AD200 Godox lighting with me, so I could control the light myself instead of relying on whatever the sun was doing at that hour.

Family Portraits at Lowville Park
The session took place at Lowville Park in Burlington, one of my favourite spots for family and pet portraits. Mac, Kimberly's bulldog, joined the session too, as Barbara considers him her fur grandchild.
Debbie's son was full of personality in front of the camera, dancing and making faces through several of the shots, exactly the kind of moment candid family photography is built to catch.
One of my favourite images from the day is him hugging Barbara and Gary.

Why I Love Lowville Park
Lowell Park in Burlington is one of the family photo locations I return to again and again, since it offers plenty of shade throughout the property, which matters for sessions that land outside golden hour.
It also has a lot of different nooks and corners, which gives real variety in your pet and family session. It's a pet-friendly location too, so Mac was welcome throughout the whole afternoon without any issue.
Lowell Park offers free parking, and nothing is far to walk to, which keeps the whole session moving smoothly.
Photo Album Gift
Kimberly and Debbie wanted Barb to choose whatever artwork she loved most from what I offer. Barb loved the whole gallery, and out of everything, the photo album was the piece she loved most.
She chose a twelve-by-nine horizontal album, with the whole family together on the cover.
She chose to have the rest of the album covered in blue fabric, since most of the family wore blue tones that day, and it tied the whole album together beautifully.
Book a Family Session
Every session I photograph comes with the same next step: a full gallery to look through and a choice of artwork to take home.
If a family portrait session is something you've been meaning to book for someone in your life, a photography gift certificate is an easy way to let them pick what they love most, the same way Kimberly and Debbie did for Barb.
Book a consultation with me, and from there we can talk about a custom photo album or whatever piece ends up being the right fit for your family.
