Senior Dog Photoshoot

In October, I had the privilege of photographing Lexi and her family on their favourite trail in Aurora, Ontario. Lexi is a 13-year-old dog who carries herself with the kind of quiet confidence that only comes with age, and her family wanted to celebrate exactly that.

The goal of the pet session was to document Lexi in a place that was meaningful to her, surrounded by the deep golds and rusts of fall.

Most of the session was focused on her, with a few images of the full family of six together and individual portraits of each family member with her.

Lexi was a joy to photograph.

Her age did not slow her down when a ball was involved, and I was able to capture some genuine action shots alongside her quieter, more contemplative portraits. I also quickly learned that treats are the fastest way to her heart, which is information I put to good use.

Her mom ordered an 11x14 portrait matted in a 16x20 frame of the whole family together, along with a selection of smaller prints and additional edited images. Seeing a finished order like that, artwork chosen with intention and built to last, is one of the most satisfying parts of this work.

The message I received from the family afterward stayed with me. They said thank you for creating beautiful memories of our family. That is exactly why I do this.

A senior dog session is one of the most meaningful sessions I offer. These dogs have given their families everything, and a portrait session is a way of honouring that before time moves on.
